One day after seeing Declan at the hospital, Jillian stood on the sidewalk outside the club and stared at the massive double doors. So many times she’d thought about going back, seeking him out, begging for another night like the first one. Had that been a fluke or had the sex really been that good?

He was so handsome, sexy, and she loved the way he teased. Especially his mischievous grin. God, why couldn’t she stop thinking about his grin?

The door opened, and Jillian jumped back a step. The second she saw his face she wanted to run, to pretend she hadn’t been there staring at the door like a fool.

“Did you want to come in?” he asked.

His voice was deep, sexy, and the sultry look in his eyes made her knees weak. He was dressed in black slacks and a light gray shirt. His tie was loose, allowing for the first two buttons of his shirt to be undone.

Jillian swallowed and twisted her finger. “I don’t know why I was standing here.”

He leaned his shoulder against the door jam and stuck his hands in his pockets, his feet crossed at the ankles. He looked casual, but the pure lust in his eyes made him appear incredibly dangerous and utterly irresistible.

“Why don’t you come in?” he said softly. “It’s much better to talk inside where it’s private.”

Jillian bit her lip in indecision. She could. Oh, it would be so easy to walk in there, follow him upstairs again. But it would also be foolish. If one time made it hard to stop thinking about him, what would twice do?

Declan pushed off the doorjamb and stepped onto the sidewalk. Jillian frowned, wondering what he was doing, but she didn’t back away. She didn’t shake her head no. She just stood there, staring, and anxious.

He reached out and took her hand in his. Jillian stared at their hands, hers wrapped in his larger one. He tugged, and she looked up at him, helpless. “I said just one night.”

He nodded. “You did.”

“I meant it.”

“I’m sure you did at the time.” He brought her hand to his mouth and kissed the back of her fingers. “But you’re here now.”

“Yes…but…”

“No buts,” he said as he turned and pulled her with him into the entry hall of the club.

Jillian didn’t know why she followed him, but she couldn’t seem to tell him no. She wanted this. She could at least admit that.

“It’s just sex,” she said firmly. “No dating, no relationships, no dinners out. Just sex.”

Declan looked down at her, that sexy pull to his lips. God, he looked so damn good.

He walked closer and tipped up her chin. “One of these days you’re going to have to tell me what your problem is with dating.”

“No problem,” she said with a slight shake of her head. “I just don’t want to.”

Declan tilted his head and brushed the back of his fingers over her cheek. “Who hurt you, pet?”

“No one person hurt me, it’s just…”

“Just that you’re afraid,” he finished for her.
